Parthenium hysterophorus L.

• Parthanium hysterophorus is a noxious exotic weed which has spread to many parts of India covering approximately 5 million ha.
• Pathanium plants prefer moist,shady, and organically rich habitats.
• The plants have remarkable adaptibility to environmental extremes.
• It causes dermatitis and other allergies to human beings.

Control:

        Pre-emergence herbicides like simazine,atrazine,alachlor,diuron,butachlor,nitrofen,etc., can prevent seedling emergence upto 2 to 5 months ,depending on the rate of application.

       Post-emergence applications of glyphosate(1.0 kg),2,4-D (2.0 kg),paraquat(1.0 kg) or a combination of 2,4-D + paraquat would (2.0 kg a.i) provide effective control of Parthenium.
